‘Fit-4-Dreams’ Sleep Assessment
‘Fit-4-Dreams’ is our four-step sleep assessment process that allows us to help fit our customers to the right mattress. This unique process is what sets Today’s Bed apart from the competition. Most mattress stores will suggest for you to pick out the most comfortable mattress, but at Today’s Bed we have engaged in extensive research that proves our sleep assessment is the best in the industry. Our research concluded that one needs to satisfy all four sleep criteria to ensure the best possible night’s sleep. These four basic criteria make up our ‘Fit-4-Dreams’ diagram: Comfort, Support, Pressure Relief, and Alignment.
Nature has it’s way of allowing the mind and body to recover from all of our daily activities, and sleep is absolutely critical. Therefore a ‘Better Night Sleep’ can change a person’s life forever!
It is absolutely necessary to satisfy all criteria to ensure the right mattress for a good night sleep. Many mattress stores have a 90 day comfort guarantee. Today’s Bed has one as well. However the biggest difference between the deals our competitors offer and the one we offer is the competition takes pride in their trial offers. Today’s Bed takes pride in taking the time to satisfy all four criteria in our ‘Fit-4-Dreams’ process so our 90 day comfort guarantee never has to be engaged.
The Power of Reaching all Six Sleep Stages
Sleep is something that we build on, we go to bed at night and we slowly begin to drift away, this leads us to stage 1 of sleep. A good night has 6 stages, and 1 through 4 are the foundation for the sleep we are building upon. Stage 5, referred to as REM Sleep, is where we enter a deeper sleep. There is a stage 6 called Delta sleep that we jokingly refer to as, “Comatose Sleep.” Stages 5 and 6 of sleep is where all of the physiological changes take place in our bodies and all of the repair of the body and mind occur with better circulation as blood circulates through your entire body and delivers more oxygen, blood cells and even hormones that your body secretes in these deeper stages of sleep.
So we build sleep by entering 6 stages, but the big issue is that we don’t begin to build sleep while out of sleep. In other words, when we drift off we start to build stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, stage 4, and soon stage 5 and Delta sleep – the promise land. But if we endure any sleep interruption whatsoever, we will fall back to ZERO and have to start all over again.
So many times when you are sleeping all night and wake up tired, achy, and groggy, and in need of a cup of coffee, it’s due to you being out of sleep. What’s happening is you have been lingering between sleep stage 1 and 4 all night and never getting to the real restorative and rejuvenating stages of REM and Delta sleep. It is now time to improve your sleep process.
The Cause and Facts of Sleep Interruption
So, what causes sleep interruption that we want to avoid at all cost? There are many outside factors that can cause sleep interruption such as outdoor noises and traffic, but as far as the mattress goes the four things that cause sleep interruption are:
We know that when we satisfy all four of those sleep criteria we take the guesswork out of choosing the right mattress for the best nights sleep. Comfort is quite subjective and is just a matter of what one likes. Support and Pressure relief are based on the curvatures of the person’s body and are just a few key factors in the right choice of a mattress for you.
When we lay down on a mattress we present a series of nooks and crannies. The nooks are your support points and the crannies the pressure points. These will vary dependent on the person’s size, age, and how the person sleeps at night. For Back Sleepers the support points are between the shoulder blades, the lower portion of the back, and up underneath the knees. The pressure points are the shoulder blades, our heels, and mostly the tailbone. For Side Sleepers the support points are the ribcage, the high leg, and the high ankle area. The pressure points are the shoulder and arm, the hips, knees, and the anklets.
Support & Pressure Areas for a Proper Night Sleep
The main goal in our ‘Fit-4-Dreams’ sleep assessment is in the support areas. At Today’s Bed we want to make certain that the right mattress absolutely greets your body in these areas and that you can’t even slide a piece of paper between you and the mattress. It is in these details that assure you are getting the appropriate support for a proper night sleep.
The pressure areas are so important because the physiological changes that take place in the body occurs because of proper blood circulation. Blood circulates through the entire body and makes these important deliveries. If there is too much pressure on the pressure points not only does that cause sleep interruption but it does not allow for those deliveries to be made. Any side sleeper who has experienced waking up with tingling or even worse, no feeling in their arm, is not only impeding the blood flow to their arm but is cutting it off.
In the pressure points it is important to feel a comforting, cradling, and actually a “weightless” feeling. Weightless means that it is so comforting that one can’t even tell where their body ends and the mattress starts, and this is what allows for total blood flow in your body.
Support & Pressure Relief Balance - Look to Body Alignment.
In explaining the support and pressure relief in our sleep criteria, we are actually asking the mattress to do contradicting things with both pushing up and forgiveness at the same time. To ensure that we are getting just the right balance of both support and pressure relief, we look to body alignment.
When the body is standing in a very comforting and most balanced position, notice that the shoulders are directly over the hips which are directly over the heels. One could draw a straight as an arrow line directly through all three. The body does the work for you. What is needed for the best night sleep is for the mattress to do the same and do the work for you. At that juncture you will then be experiencing proper Comfort, Support, Pressure Relief, and Alignment!
